The hotel is named after Cristóbal de Mondragón, a 16th century Spanish general. In 1575, he besieged Zierikzee on behalf of King Philip II of Spain and took the city. His name has been linked to Zierikzee ever since. Back in the sixteenth century, Mondragon stayed in the Oude Haven. And now you can follow in his footsteps and stay in one of Zeeland’s most stunning locations. When you enter the historic centre, you pass through the beautiful Noordhavenpoort where Hotel Mondragon is waiting, on your right. We will unload your luggage, park your car and show you to your luxurious room or suite.
In Restaurant Cristó, the kitchen bustles with activity all day long. Chefs conjure up delectable dishes inspired by French cuisine (‘la bistronomie’) with a touch of the Basque Country where the town of Mondragon nestles at the foot of the eponymous dragon mountain. Our culinary team can’t wait to serve up an unforgettable experience! From your table in our authentic old-world restaurant you can watch the chefs at work, enjoy views of the harbour or pick a table overlooking our inner garden with fountain. A hand-picked selection of Classic European wines—delicious and deliciously affordable—may make choosing difficult. But our sommelier is on hand to advise. The ingredients on our menu are carefully selected and sourced locally: summer fish from the North Sea and Oosterschelde, and in the winter game from breath-taking Schouwen-Duiveland.
